Very quiet because it uses the filter as a muffler, and the blower motor housing is made from styrofoam. I don't have a manual, but I cut a piece of of the carbon pre-filter to go on the outside of the filter, then folded it in half than wrapped it around the plastic pre-filter housing on the bottom. The pre-filter could have been designed better, but if you double it up it works ok. If you sell it on ebay, pack it good because the motor housing is very fragile. It intakes from the bottom, and exhausts from the filter, the dirt gets trapped inside the filter, so make double sure you have the pre-filter working, because you can't just wrap the pre-filter around it and expect it to help. (It does help sorb odors.) It's much quieter than the venerable 11520 round honeywell, and doesn't stir up as much dust. It's not good for rooms with tall ceilings, or for extremely dusty conditions where a newer honeywell would work better. But for a small bedroom, it's perfect. I got mine from ebay for $41.50 shipped, and put new hepa and pre filters in it. Another reason it's good for the bedroom: the diffused exhaust air doesn't dry out your eyes when you sleep, my 11520 dried out my nose and eyes really bad. Don't pay more than $50 shipped, get new filters for it immediately, and give it a chance, it might just grow on you.Read full review
I have 2 of these 18150 HEPA Air Purifiers; one I bought new a few years ago, and one I recently purchased used on Ebay. Although the one I got from Ebay was pretty dirty when I got it, it still worked fine and cleaned up nicely. Like: Relatively quiet Easy to take apart for filter changes, although the bottom prefilter is a bit tricky to fit. Dependable Dislike: -No "wiggle room" for fitting HEPA filter. To fit properly, I believe the filter must be an original Honeywell 21500. I bought an off brand that was about 1/8-1/4" taller and it didn't fit properly. -Aforementioned issue with the prefilter. It has to drape a little loosely around a ring at the bottom of the air purifier - I'd like a tighter fit. On the new model I purchased a few years ago, the prefilter reminder light stuck in the "on" position a year or so later so I just use the calendar. The used one seems to have no such problem, so it was probably a malfunction of an individual machine.Read full review
I like to leave the windows open but that means LOTS of dust, largely in the form of plant material (a pure white powder) - from eucalyptus and oak trees, I think. This filter works. I would say that it cuts back on the dust by about 90 percent. I leave it on high speed when I am gone and medium speed the rest of the time (all night). Very quiet, kind of a ''white'' noise on low or medium. Highly recommended, especially with the permanent HEPA filter (vacuum clean and replace when the ''filter'' light comes on -- easy).
I got this item for my girlfriend as her allergies keep acting up. Firstly the entire interior cavity that makes the unit airtight is made of styrofoam. So during shipping a piece of the styrofoam broke. So the unit wasnt airtight at all. So we had it fixed... Didnt notice a darn difference in our air... It just skyrocketed my energy bill. total waste of time and money. NOw its sitting in the back of my closet, dont know what to do with it. If any of you want it you can come pick it up, need more space to put my shoes
I love it! Filter is easy to clean, runs quiet. It is rather large, but worth the space. We have 2 cats in the house, you wouldn't bellieve when the filter was cleaned. It is great!
