the phone is all the positive stuff you read or heard about it and alot less of the negative after a firmware upgrade or 2. About the camera, just use the correct settings. It is only 3mp but night settings at night perform alot better than auto at night. During daylight just adjust the contrast up 1 notch. The screen is beautiful and the user interface is good for a first from symbian. The web browser can download anything like your browser on a pc and automatically saves to the memory card. The music player is good and loud through the speakers. Alot of applications are already available. Take my advice. Hack your phone so you can have access to the hundreds of cool and useful apps out there. The only real complaint is the battery life but with such a huge bright screen its understandable and not as bad as the iphone so its ok. I didn't get the stand promised in the package. Did you get that seller? Overall a satisfying purchase. 4 out of 5Read full review
I'm not too much into smartphones, i always had the oldies Nokia, Alcatel, etc. I've tried Blackberries and didn't like them. The functions of the Nokia 5800 are good enough for what i was looking for, GPS connection, WI-FI, good camera (3.2mp) i also use other apps that work very well with this phone, i don't really play games with it, and i haven't tried the mailing function yet, actually i check them trough wi-fi wich is pretty simple to use, i didn't need to configure by myself anything. Haven't tried yet the video call, but i did try that camera (VGA) and it works better for pictures than films in pretty enlighted environments, in darkness or environments with poor lights it really sucks since it doesn't have any flashlight. Other thing about the cam, you CAN'T change the position of the video, with the main cam you have to film in horizontal position, and in vertical with the second cam. I bought it because the bidding was going very low and i took advantage of the ending of the bid. i already had another nokia (5310 XpressMusic) but i lost it a week after i won the bid, it took me 2 weeks to receive the phone but i think that was ok since i'm in Argentina (South America) and the phone came from the UKRead full review
I did a fair amount of research before buyinng a second-hand Nokia 5800 on Ebay. This is a really great phone with only one thing that lets it down slightly. The camera is potentially good, but the lense/flash window incorporated in the back of the phone can cause 2 problems -(1) Some of the light from the flash can bleed into the picture, especially if the small internal foam gasket is defective (2) any dirt or scratches on the lense window can reduce picture quality. I bought a new back (about £6) which inproved things considerably, but for important pictures, I think it is better to take the back off the phone, especially if using the flash. Other than that, everything about the phone is great. Battery life is good. GPS navigation works well, the music player and sound quality are second to none.Read full review
Superior resistive touch screen, real stereo speakers, sensible sized snaps, swappable battery, memory card, free Symbian apps shared by community, and independance from google, microsoft, crapple...what's not to love?. I lost one on the rockery from December to March and it is still working perfectly years later. Since this, manufacturers have just been taking features OFF. If Nokia were not brilliant, Microsoft wouldn't have...

I like the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music because it connects to the internet through WiFi. It is my first touch screen and I did get it at a nice price. Useful applications, nice menu and contact system. I do dislike the fact that you need to slide the pointer instead of just touching to answer the phone or close an alarm. Possibly because I learnt so when I was trying to turn off the ringing alarm :) It might have a setting to change that, though. If you're thinking of buying it, I do recommend it, but I do not believe you should "fight" for it, as with any material ;)
