I bought this phone for my Mum who has always managed with really bad heavy old fashioned phones. She had previously only used her mobile for emergencies but we discovered recently she didn't have a signal with her previous provider and this prompted the change. I particularly liked the fact that it had a flashlight which is useful in a power cut. Since giving her the phone and about 20 minutes instruction she can now text! It has opened up a whole new line of communication to her and makes her feel less isolated from the rest of her family. My Mum is not techno but learn't to use this little phone really easily. I would recommend it to anyone starting out.
I read a few reviews about the 1616 that were not very complimentary. However, from the spec I knew that it was just what I wanted. I have always had Nokias and so am used to the way they work. My last one broke (I'd dropped it a few times and so it wouldn't ring out) so I bought a cheapo mobile which didn't do predict text and the function keys weren't in the same place and it drove me absolutely mad. So I decided to go for a plain and simple Nokia 1616 - nothing fancy - does predict text, has an alarm, calculator, reminder, all the things that I wanted and I haven't been disappointed. I'd buy it again if I was in the same situation. But if you want something fancy - internet connection - bluetooth etc etc, this isn't the phone for you.

Very good basic phone. Light weight but robust. I bought it to take to take abroad. Very good battery life, and the torch an excellent feature. With no need for a camera it suited very well.
Very pleased I was able to buy another Nokia 1616. Very easy to use and battery seems ok.
